Celebrating Fire Hydrants

Celebrating the Fire Hydrant in all its variations and locations.
"He also serves who only stands and waits." John Milton

If you would like to add a picture of a fire hydrant from your area, send it to MundaneFotos@yahoo.com
or post a picture on your blog and leave me a comment. If you don't mind, please include the location of the fire hydrant: city, state/province, country. I reserve the right to crop the photos if needed. Photos of fire hydrants actually used to fight a fire will be given a preference (details appreciated). Photos that include firefighters are even better.

The first picture is an old fire hydrant, though not one of the oldest.

The second picture is a more recent one. It has a protective box where you can find SI written, which stands for "Fire Services".

The third picture is one of the oldest and it stands not by the buildings, but inside their outer walls. There are several of them like that in town, especially in the oldest areas.

"Serviços de Incêndio" is the original in Portuguese for which SI stands for. Linguistic curiosity: a literal translation of the Portuguese name for a fire hydrant would be "fire's mouth" (fire the event, not the element).
